Year in Review

Books Read: 144.  I rock.

Trips Taken: So many.  Several on my own to visit with my friend who was fighting breast cancer.  It was odd to travel alone as I have not really done it much since getting married.  I have almost always traveled with my husband and/or kids.  But five times, I traveled on my own and it was so calm not to worry about everyone else's needs.

The youngest went to Kindergarten this fall leaving me alone for a few blessed hours each day.  I spent the first month with a nasty virus.  After that, I would clean the house and then enjoy it for several hours before boys came rampaging home.

I wrote a book over the summer.  And sent it out to an illustrator.  And another book went to a different illustrator.  Still waiting for a return.  But hopeful for some good images.

Husband got a new job.  He joined up with a former colleague and they built a company.

We had work done on the house, creating a new office space and man cave for Husband.  And then doing up the backyard.  We love, love, love our home.  And we never want to leave.  Unfortunately we probably need to move to be closer to my husband's new office three hours away.  Sigh.

So in the new year, we are saving and purging in case we need to move.  And trying to enjoy our home while we can.

I decided to put off horseback riding lessons for now as we look to save every dime for a more expensive housing market.  And I researched local mortuarys in the new area so I can dream about some of my goals in the future.

My health improved quite a bit in the last year and I can now eat many more foods than I could just a few months ago.  I've been cooking a lot more and we have been enjoying a resurgence in family dinners.  Eating can be so enjoyable when food is not trying to murder you. And I have finally been putting on some weight.  My body can process some fats now and it makes a huge difference.  I am back to my high school weight and loving it. For someone who has long had a very low white blood cell count (usually static in the 3-4 range), I can actually feel my body fight off the bad guys now.  I go down, but I pop back up.  And it has made all the difference. It is truly a miracle that has unfolded in my health this year.

The oldest learned to drive.  Hallelujah!

The oldest is a junior in high school. The next entered high school as a freshman while the third entered middle school and the youngest entered elementary school.  Four boys.  Three schools.  I get a million school emails a day.

This year has been hard in some ways and absolutely amazing in other ways.   I look forward to 2019 with anticipation and excitement.

Banff

It was very, very cold.  So cold it often hurt to be outside for any length of time.

But we walked everywhere in the charming town, including to church on Sunday morning.

Someone decided he loved spumoni.  I do not like pistachio, vanilla, and chocolate ice cream all together.  But Ev could no get enough.

The sun did come out a bit.  But it was still soooo cold.

New Years at the pub.

Husband skiied almost every day for a week.
