Govt Offices

I have been spending a lot of time in govt offices lately.  Hours and hours.  Because apparently the Hurricane flooded most of the offices and so everyone has to congregate at just a few.  Thanks again, Harvey!

Managed to get everything I needed done.  Good luck on your stuff, Husband!  And now the fifteen year old is learning to drive.  Which is a beautiful thing!

Pool

We are loving our pool.

And even Ev is now putting his tippy toes in the water on his own.  Yay!

Furniture

Along with the hurricane work, we still had to move into our house and unpack.

We had to get a few new pieces of furniture.

When these chairs arrived, Riley dropped into one to relax and Spencer said, "Great!  Now we don't have to kill Grandma for her chairs!"

Yes.  She can stay alive.

We also had to use the boxes to build houses and other fun structures.

The house is very slowly coming together.

Hurricane Harvey

So...yeah.  Hurricane Harvey happened.  Welcome to Texas!

We did not flood.  But many around us did.

So the boys have been working on crews, helping to muck out houses, move furniture, and anything else that needs doing.  The work is incredibly vast.

If you flooded, then you have to remove the drywall and insulation in your home as fast as possible at least two feet above the waterline.  This is dirty, hard work.  Then you have to treat the wood to prevent mold growth.  And you have to haul out the ruined contents of your home.  It's been really hard.

But, here are a few lessons we have learned.

People are here are good.  So many times, it was strangers helping strangers to gut a house or to feed a crew or to provide needed supplies.

Community is important.

We are meant to be here.  Even if we came at a funny time.

And many hands make lighter work.

I love how hard they worked to keep their inside clean.  Just to flood.  Can you see the waterline.  This is life sometimes.  You do your best and face challenges anyway.

The boys had to learn that after working hard (which is good) they needed to remove their work boots (also good) or they would have to detail my car.

Haven't had a problem with muck in the car since.

Health Downs and Ups

I had the regular flu twice, felt the effects of anemic exhaustion, and been bitten by every bug in texas.

My legs took a bruising.  Literally.

On the other hand, I am able tolerate organic butter and organic ice cream here and the frequency of my sick episodes has diminished.

So...ok.

I will find a new doctor here to check my blood levels, see if I need more iron than the three doses I take now.  But until then, taking it one health day at a time.
